DESCRIPTION: Length up to 7mm.  A smart chunky domed beetle of a dark metallic bronze  to green colouration with occasional tones of red, blue and black.  The pronotum  and elytra interstices are dull and very finely punctured with the elytral striae  formed of sparse punctures. BEHAVIOUR: Adults  feed on Hypericum leaves & flowers.  The larvae feed at night on  leaves and stems.  Adults do overwinter but rarely make it to Spring.   Up to 2,000 eggs can be laid in the basal leaves duringthe autumnal months with  the larvae hatching the following spring and pupating in the soil. DISTRIBUTION: Widespread in southern Britain, becoming scarcer towards the north. HABITAT: Open woodland, grassland, coastal areas, anywhere where the host  plant is found. PERIOD: Late May to July.
